Meet The Team

We are a small group of Broadway residents who have come together to create Broadway Village Gardens as a community project.

Charli Hartley – Chair

Charli has lived in Broadway since the early 90’s, now with her partner, two young daughters and Siberian Husky, Shadow.

She is the Director and Editor of The Broadway Magazine (a Community Interest Company), and the owner of a branding, marketing and business
development consultancy.

Charli’s personal interests include natural living,
organic growing, sustainability and foraging.

Joe Aspey – Vice Chair

Joe has lived in Broadway for 14 years, and locally
since his 20’s. He is married with three grown-up
sons. Joe helps to run his family business, Slate Clothing and has a wide experience in business and community projects.

Joe is an enthusiastic gardener, and previously chaired Ashton Under Hill Open Gardens for 5 years before moving to Broadway.

Claire Spendley – Secretary

Claire recently moved into Broadway with her
husband and two sons in 2024.

Claire’s previous work saw her as Head of Community Business at Plunkett UK – a charity who supports community-owned businesses. She is now currently overseeing the commercial strategy for a non-profit organisation campaigning for water efficiency.

Claire is happiest outdoors and can often be spotted running, swimming, or exploring the local area with her family.

In January 2025, we welcomed 6 members of the community who joined us to form a Steering Group.

Alysha Loveridge

A long-term Broadway resident with a passion for inclusivity and community engagement. Alysha has extensive experience working with individuals with disabilities, local organisations, and community initiatives. She aims to create an accessible and welcoming space for all.

Jess Nicholls

A garden designer with expertise in horticulture, land management, and conservation. Jess has been involved in several community-led gardening projects and is eager to bring her knowledge of sustainable gardening practices to the Broadway Village Gardens.

Phil Insley

A lifelong horticulturist and organiser of the Broadway Horticultural and Craft Show. Phil has a wealth of experience in plant production, business management, and event organisation.

Alan Young

A professional horticulturist working for one of the UK’s largest plant nurseries. Alan brings industry connections, expertise in plant selection, and experience in managing large-scale horticultural projects, ensuring the gardens are expertly planned and maintained.

Rob Fulton

A retired solicitor with extensive experience in charity governance and local community projects. Rob’s skills span project management, fundraising, and legal expertise.

Christian Lang (Administrator)

A Broadway resident since 1988, Christian brings strong administrative and project management skills from his background in property development. As our society’s administrator, he will manage communications, meetings, and organisational tasks for the group.
